Physics

When we went to Goldstream we saw the oil boom in the river. People put it in the river to capture the oil and the dead fish. Because oil is less dense than water, it floats on the surface of the stream. The oil boom is for filtering contaminants. The fish are dying because the oil floats on the surface of the water, so the oxygen cannot dissolve into the water.

How much force did the truck hit rock wall with if driver was not speeding?

p= mv

m= 63500 kg (http://www.tetracom.ca/transtalk/?p=2151)
v= 70km/h= 19.4 m/s

p=(19.4)(63500)
p=1231900 N/s

F= p/t

p= 1231900 N/s
t= 3 seconds (estimated)

F= (1231900)/(3)
F= 410633.3 N

Reflection

Reflection

In the group 4 project, I have only done a few things actually, but I have tried my best! I felt pretty bad when we went to Goldstream Park, I could smell and see the oil in the river; unfortunately, we didn’t see any dead fish, but we saw some salmon fry. In this project, we know how the problem happened, how people are trying to solve it, and what's the difference is in the H2O quality before and after the oil spill. I think the oil spill is a very serious problem in this local environment, fish are dying, and the water got contaminated. We can see that oil is very poisonous through the evidence of dying fish. We did a hexane test which was inconclusive .

The Group 4 students did a great job during the field trip. We collected information as a team and we all worked very hard. When we were doing the water test, Katie and Savannah did a fantastic job; they worked so hard and they almost took over all the work. They also set up the blog and put the information on it.

brandons hypothesis

I think that the accident will effect the salmon and other living things in the river now as well as the long run. It could effect their sences on how to get back to the river once they are in the ocean. It could mess up so many things that the salmon might not be able to keep repopulating like they have been doing for so long. I think that the future of the salmon and every living thing in the river is not that good.

brandons reflection

i feel like the project went pretty well. Even though i felt left out and didnt have very much to do i thought that we all worked very well together. The stuff i did do, my group was always there to help me when ever i needed it. I learned how bad the accident actually was. i never thought it was that bad and the effects on the wildlife was that bad. Anyways overall it was a good project and i thought we had good teamwork.

photo of this accident

my lately conclusion by claire

Recall a lot of material provide, we should hear some general government information and made a finally conclusion.

1. http://www.youtube .com/watch?v=gq6Rm8Q4_P4&feature=related

or visit timescolonist

2. http://www.timescolonist.com/news/Fuel+truck+overturns+near+Goldstream+Provincial+Park/4629292/story.html

there provide a lot of pictures, then you will know how serious is it.

understand clearly what's going on in Goldstream Park, is really important for make a conclusion base on our personal view with the exteral information & our test like Hp test or Hexane test.

When we visit the Goldstream Park, walked around the river even move the storm, we can see understand its already pollute by the cruil oil. Moreover, the smell really bad actually. The gasoline smell surround the whole Goldstream Park, although we visit there after 3 week of the accident.

We find any oil in the water of the river, because we find the water in the wrong way. Our water is come from 2 different places, the water in the river, the water near the road.

Although obstacle barriers the pollute water, the water movement really quick and the obstacle is not really worked as we cannot find any oil near the obstacle base on the result of the Hexane test.

This evident show the staff of Goldstream should make a better way to solve the problem if it happan again next time.

However, visit the result of pH test, we should see the pH level of polluted water are lower than normal. According to the pH test, ph of the river is almost 6 account for influent seriously. Salmon run occurs in Goldstream Park because of the environment, for example, before this accident the water of the river is almost 7-8.

Therefore, the salmon number maybe decrease from 2012 to 2016, that 4- year cycle.

This is the over-all conclusion, so if u want to know more detail pleaze review the post. If visiter have any question, have any suggest,somthing run wrong, please send e-mail to me (cindy-mok@hotmail.com), thanks for visitor spent time to visit our projec, hope you enjoy with it.
